A relaxed, live-in vibe

The homely bar is warm and dusky with leadlight windows and simple wooden furniture. The shelves brace volumes of well-loved books and a vinyl collection your coolest friends would swoon over. Beyond the French doors and down the overgrown alley, you’ll find a courtyard perfect for soaking the last lights of Melbourne after work or sidling up to a lover with a glass of red come date night.

Celebrating their own hood

Supporting the small, passionate producers they have right on their doorstep, Underwood Wine Bar bids to keep things local. Asserting an all-Australian menu, Underwood accents the high calibre of progressive food and wine producers found in and around Melbourne ‘hoods.

Pick your mood and they’ll pick the wine

Curated by Sommelier Michael Underwood, the exclusive menu focuses on all-Australian wine and beer, with a few craft spirits and several types of vermouth. They rotate their pouring wines regularly to welcome less-known, boutique drops like Amato Vino’s Slankamenka Bela; not a grape you hear about everyday, or ever for that matter. You won’t find this full-bodied, textural white anywhere else in the country, so best you pop into Underwood for a glass soon!

You can’t have wine without cheese

Sharing snacks with your date is a great ice-breaking activity. If you’re feeling casual and peckish, A Taste of Most Things will showcase a little bit of this, a little bit of that without any tongue-tied courting over the menu. The toasted sandwiches are pretty spesh as well – try the Triple Cheese with Creamed Corn, Dijon and Thyme or the Smoked Ham, Gruyere and Truffle. Both come served with a handful of Kettle Chips and a Pickle.

Word on the Street
