One Noodle Friendship: Dumplings of Your Dreams

One Noodle Friendship in Preston Hood Food Guide

24 Mar One Noodle Friendship: Dumplings of Your Dreams

For some delish handmade noodles and plump dumplings, One Noodle Friendship will be your new bestie on Preston’s High Street.

Just like Ma ma makes

This no-nonsense Asian restaurant with a downright adorable name is one of Preston’s best-kept secrets. It’s fronted by a window display of sweet old Asian ladies and dudes lovingly making fresh dumplings and stretching soft noodles.  For such an unassuming, untrendy little restaurant located in an arcade of all places, the scrumptious, care-filled feastings are the reason people can’t stop coming back for more (and more and more).

Fuck, is this real life?

Steaming tea appears out of nowhere with fresh Dumplings and Noodles in tow.  Hand pinched Dumplings in Broth soak up Soy and Chilli Oil like a dream. The dough of the kooky, green Vegetable Dumplings are stained with Spinach (no nasties here) and filled with a flavourful mix of Vermicelli and Tofu – a must try, steamed or fried. The utterly soft hand-stretched Chinese Lamian Noodles are so damn delectable that you’ll keep slurping well after you’ve entered food-baby territory. Definitely make a mess destroying a bowl of Pickled Cabbage and Shredded Pork Noodle Soup.

You’re a fool if you just stick to Noodles and Dumplings, however ridiculous it might seem to stray at the time. I mean, the owner, Bill, make the noodles fresh for EVERY ORDER. Just slaps them out and stretches them in a way that would put a pizza dough-thrower to absolute shame. What a legend. But seriously, the Five Spice Beef is on some next level shit, and the Eggplant appears roasted, but it’s only an illusion. Its insides are like Butter, a Peanut-Sesame Butter, and it’s absolutely killer.

Local fave – with good reason!

Considering the competition from Asian restaurants on High Street, One Noodle Friendship, nestled away in the heritage Preston Chambers Arcade, still commands an impressive amount of faithful customers. An early Monday night dinner sesh soon fills up, with locals ordering their favourite Chinese and Japanese dishes.

For some of the best dumplings and noodles Melbourne has to offer (high praise for such popular Melbs dishes) One Noodle Friendship is an overlooked Preston gem that is well worth a visit.
