Love Thy Stray Neighbour

Stray Neighbour is Preston's Best Date Spot.

31 Mar Love Thy Stray Neighbour

Stray off the beaten path to this fresh Preston eatery, offering modern European dining in a hip Northern Melbourne package.

“By locals, for the locals”

Stray Neighbour is the brainchild of Chew Burgers’ Andrew Chew and Ben Stray, along with Ben’s brother, Daniel. The joint came to life in the land of Plenty Road from a want of a local bar and hangout in the boys’ hood. North of Bell St, an old panel-beater’s has been expertly transformed into a trendy suburban bar and eatery, complete with pool table and artsy, stray doggy-themed murals.

The bar is, well, raising the bar for Preston, so they don’t skimp on the beers. They offer 12 seasonally changing brews on tap, each handle adorned by delightfully unique pups, in addition to bottled options. Of course, there’s also a wine and cocktail list for those not into a frothy lovely.

Neighbourly delights with a modern edge

With head chef and local Romina Gagliardi (previously sous-chef at Jacques Reymond’s Bistro Gitan) at the wheel, there’s an offering of modern and expertly crafted meals on their summer menu, like oozy Leek and Gruyere Croquettes, and perfectly Chargrilled Spatchcock.

Fresh veg and herbs scatter the Stray Neighbour garden, promising a plate that’s delicious and nutritious. Locally sourced meat and ingredients also add to the neighbourly spirit. They’ve got a generous, unpretentious meal for every size of stomach, offering a generous collection of entrees, small and large dishes.

This won’t be one of those restaurants where you claim a full stomach to skip dessert. You’ll be hard pressed to choose from Spiced Crème Brulee, Jammy Doughnuts with Vanilla Custard, summery Fruit Panna Cotta and sweet Choc-ale-Caramel Quenelles, so be sure to leave room! *Drools*

Whether you’re in for a drink (or several) or some decadent dishes, you’ll be sure to love thy Neighbour.
